She grew up in China. She learned to play table tennis at the age of 8. In 1985 and 1986 she became China's youth singles champion. In 1986 she also won the women's singles championship. In 1987 she became student world champion in Sofia. She played three international matches for China, but fell out with the responsible coaches and was no longer included in the national squad.After a two-year break from table tennis, she moved to Germany in 1991, where she lived in Offenburg with her then husband Li Shusen, a former national coach of China.

In 1991 she joined the club SV Böblingen, with whom she played in the Bundesliga. In 1996 she married Ingo Gotsch and has since performed under the name Qianhong Gotsch. In April 1998 she received German citizenship. She has been a member of the German national team since 1999. She played her first international match on January 13, 1999 in the European League match against Russia, in which she won both singles.

In 1999 she won the German and European ranking tournament. Her most successful year was in 2000. This year she won the Europe TOP-12 again and became German singles champion. She celebrated her greatest success with the individual gold and team silver at the 2000 European Championships. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Gotsch was eliminated in the quarterfinals. At the end of 2000, Gotsch ended her international career.
